Answer:

The price of one adult ticket = $13

The price of one student ticket = $4

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the price of 1 adult ticket = x

Let the price of 1 student ticket = y

On the first day of ticket sales the school sold 12 adult tickets and 10 student tickets for a total of $196.

12 × x + 10 × y = $196

12x + 10y = 196....... Equation 1

The school took in $59 on the second day by selling 3 adult tickets and 5 student tickets

3 × x + 5 × y = $59

3x + 5y = 59.......... Equation 2

Using Elimination method

We eliminate y, by Multiplying equation 1 by 5 and Equation 2 by 10

12x + 10y = 196....... Equation 1 × 5

3x + 5y = 59.......... Equation 2 × 10

60x + 50y = 980....... Equation 3

30x + 50y = 590......... Equation 4

Subtract Equation 4 from Equation 3

30x = 390

x = 390/30

x = $13

Therefore, the price of one adult ticket = $13

Remember: x = $13

3x + 5y = 59.......... Equation 2

Substitute

3(13) + 5y = 59

39 + 5y = 59

5y = 59 - 39

5y = 20

y = 20/5

y = $4

Therefore, the price of one student ticket = $4

Lady bird [3.3K]

Answer:

B

Step-by-step explanation:

The diagram shows four points through which the line of proportional relationship should pass. One of these points has coordinates (8,28).

The line representing proportional relationship is always straight line passing through the origin and has the equation

y=kx,

where k is the coefficient of proportionality.

Substitute coordinates of known point into the equation:

28=k\cdot 8\\ \\k=\dfrac{28}{8}=\dfrac{7}{2}=3.5,

so the coefficient of proportionality is equal to 3.5.

A line that passes through the origin also passes through the point (6,2). What is the slope of the line?
Yanka [14]

9514 1404 393

Answer:

  1/3

Step-by-step explanation:

The slope of a line is the ratio of its "rise" to its "run." The "rise" is the change in vertical distance, and the "run" is the corresponding change in horizontal distance between two points on the line. The formula for the slope is ...

  m=\dfrac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}\qquad\text{where $(x_1,y_1)$ and $(x_2,y_2)$ are points on the line}

In this problem, you are told the line passes through the origin, which is point (x, y) = (0, 0), and through point (6, 2). Using these coordinates in the slope formula gives ...

  m=\dfrac{2-0}{6-0}=\dfrac{2}{6}=\boxed{\dfrac{1}{3}}

__

You may notice that when the line passes through the origin, the slope is simply the ratio y/x of any point on the line. Here, that ratio is 2/6 = 1/3.

_____

<em>Additional comment</em>

A line through the origin is the graph of a <em>proportional</em> relationship. That is, y is proportional to x. The slope of the line is the <em>constant of proportionality</em>. The equation of the line is ...

  y = kx . . . . . . where k is the constant of proportionality.

The line in this problem statement will have the equation ...

  y = (1/3)x
