Each culture had similar characteristics, but each had their own

particular ways.

The mother of all Mesoamerican cultures was the Olmec. This first major civilization

flourished along the Gulf Coast of Mexico from 1200 to 400 BCE. They produced major works

of art, architecture, pottery, and sculptures including giant heads that are very well known today.

One of their accomplishments that served to shape their particular traditions and cultures was

building aqueducts to transfer water into cities and irrigate their fields as well as developing a
