Enzymes are regarded as biological catalysts that helps bring about biochemical reactions in living systems. They perform day-to-day activities in living cells including anabolism (build up molecules), catabolism (break down molecules) etc.

Amylase is an important group of enzymes found in plants. They catalyze reactions involving the break down of large carbohydrate molecules into simpler ones. Large polysaccharides like starch in plants are broken down to simple sugars like glucose with the help of catalytic enzymes called AMYLASES. The glucose is used to supply energy to the plant cells.
