Roosevelt was very aware of the problems and hardships of rural America that lacked electricity. That is why, as part of his "New Deal," he established the Rural Electrification Authority to solve this problem. This helped farmers to get loans and created electric cooperatives. These loans were low cost and created many jobs too. The Rural Electrification Act was passed on May 20, 1936.
