The government did not act to destroy large corporations. The government sought to suppress the monopoly to make the market fairer, and for smaller businesses to find their place in the market.

So, for example, we can take Microsoft, which ultimately controls the market, and in such circumstances, the pressure is exerted on the government to suppress such practices. Yet the government's earliest measures were not to contain corporations for competition but to protect consumers. If there is only one corporation on the market, then it can also dictate the prices of the product. America was founded on the principle of free trade and freedom of competition. Therefore, the government assumed the responsibility of preventing the creation of monopolies and suppressing the unfair practices of large corporations.
