What is the overall role of government regulations in regards to past and current monopolies

Answer: The government sought to suppress the monopolies of large corporations.

Explanation:

Government efforts varied in attempts to suppress the monopoly of large corporations. Nevertheless, the government was continually working on this policy. Legislation, like Sherman's and Clayton's anti-trust laws, had more impact on large businesses. A Federal Trade Commission was formed to address these issues. The government did not act to destroy large corporations. The government sought to suppress the monopoly to make the market fairer, and for smaller businesses to find their place in the market.

So, for example, we can take Microsoft, which ultimately controls the market, and in such circumstances, the pressure is exerted on the government to suppress such practices. Yet the government's earliest measures were not to contain corporations for competition but to protect consumers. If there is only one corporation on the market, then it can also dictate the prices of the product. America was founded on the principle of free trade and freedom of competition. Therefore, the government assumed the responsibility of preventing the creation of monopolies and suppressing the unfair practices of large corporations.

Calvin, who is trying to impress his psychology professor with his knowledge of infant motor development, asks why some infants
masya89 [10]

Calvin's professor can conclude that Calvin has been an observational kid.

Explanation:

The observation Calvin makes is a rather arbitrary one but one that can invite broader concern nonetheless.

Some kids start bobbing their heads and raising them before they can ever turn while the other develop these skills in the opposite order.

It would remain to be seen if Calvin would think something can be inferred from this otherwise rather standalone observation of things or not as there may be a study on how far this can be taken in child psychology.

At any rate, he is an observational student and the professor can put that to use.

Explain how business leaders of the Gilded Age used the concept of "Social Darwinism" to support their business tactics.
Rina8888 [55]

Copying my answer from this question from another student who asked the same one:

Social Darwinism is the belief that people and business are subject to the same laws of nature and natural selection. This has been used by business leaders, both in the Gilded Age and today, to create a belief that the strongest businesses are the ones that survive because they survive the competitive process of natural selection.

So, massive oil companies and railroad companies (and tech companies and banks today) used social darwinism to explain their rise to almost monopoly status as a "natural" thing that was accomplished merely using the laws of nature.
