1. The group nearest the end or with the shortest stem of a phylogenetic tree has evolved most recently. In this case it is eutherians.

2. The group with the longest stem has been around the longest: fish

3. A direct common ancestor will share the same immediate line, like marsupials and eutherians. Fish and marsupials do not have a common direct ancestor.

Answer:

Please see below in bold type.

Explanation:

1. You can see on the far left the time scale in million years ago (mya). So the further up the division in the phylogenetic tree, the closer to the present time it branched off. Having said this, the branching that appears further up in the tree is that of Eutherians, so we conclude this is the group that evolved most recently.

2. Acording to this logic, the group that has been around the longest must the one that branched off first (or farther down) from the phylogenetic tree. This is the group of the fish.

3. In every branching of the tree there was a common ancestor to the groups above. Consequently, we can see in the tree that marsupials and fish don't have a direct common ancestor, because Birds and Monotremes branched off first before Marsupials appeared. Marsupials did share a direct common ancestor with Eutherians.

What affect do algae blooms have on ocean ecosystems?(1 point) increased underwater plant population decreased carbon dioxide in
Umnica [9.8K]
An algal bloom affects the whole ecosystem. Consequences range from the benign feeding of higher trophic levels, to more harmful effects like blocking sunlight from reaching other organisms, causing a depletion of oxygen levels in the water, and, depending on the organism, secreting toxins into the water.

What property makes phospholipids ideal building blocks for cell membranes?
Alenkasestr [34]

Answer:

The polarity of the phospholipid makes it ideal for a building block of cell membranes.

Explanation:

There is the tails which are hydrophobic (water fearing) and the heads which are hydrophilic (water loving). These properties of phospholipids allow the tails to go towards eachother and heads to face the water which maintains a solid structure allowing certain materials to pass through.

A woman with an x-linked dominant disorder mates with a phenotypically normal male. on average, what percentage of this couple's
alex41 [277]
E. 0%

X-linked dominant disorders are not very common in females because it has to be on BOTH of their alleles in order to occur phenotypically.

Because you get one chromosome from your mom and another one from your dad, it would be impossible for the daughter to get the disorder because the dad doesn’t have it on his X chromosome to pass on to her.

In the case of the daughter, the focus is whether or not the dad has the disorder, the mom isn’t as relevant. However, if you were talking about a son, it would be a different story.

Hope this helps :)
