Suppose there is a protein "A" which binds to a DNA sequence and increases transcription of the gene CBC23. In the presence of m
fenix001 [56]

Answer:

A = Activator

B = Effector

Explanation:

An activator is a protein which typically binds to a short (50–1500 bp) region of DNA which might be located either upstream (mainly) or downstream of a gene so as to cause increased transcription. This particular region of DNA is known as enhancer and activator is also  known as transcription factor. Activator is a trans-acting factor which binds to the cis-acting factor which is enhancer so as to enhance transcriptional expression.

But another protein named as effector may restrict activator from binding to the enhancer leading to a decrease in transcriptional expression by binding to the activator allosterically. Allosteric binding of effector to the activator causes conformational change in activator so it can no longer bind the enhancer.

State the biological importance of dormancy in seeds
alexandr1967 [171]

An important function of seed dormancy is delayed germination, which allows dispersal and prevents simultaneous germination of all seeds. ... Many species of plants have seeds that delay germination for many months or years, and some seeds can remain in the soil seed bank for more than 50 years before germination.

What benefit can human stem cells provide to individuals with a genetically determine immunodeficiency? How would the process wo
Hatshy [7]

Answer:

The stem cells possess two cardinal characteristics, that is, self-renewal and differentiation. The examples are embryonic stem cells and hematopoietic stem cells. The genetically determined immunodeficiency in a person is generally a result of the defective gene in the hematopoietic stem cells that produce red blood cells, white blood cells, and other components of blood.

The examples of genetically determined immunodeficiency diseases are SCID, X-linked Agammaglobulinemia, and others. The individual suffering from genetically determined immunodeficiency exhibits a defective gene in hematopoietic stem cells. There are two methods of treatment, that is, stem cell therapy and gene therapy.

The procedure of stem cell transplantation generally comprises HLA matching, in which the main step is to prevent graft rejection. It is succeeded by harvesting of hematopoietic stem cells from the HLA matched donor. The step of conditioning is performed to eradicate the recipient HSCs by radiotherapy and chemotherapy succeeded by the transfer of harvested donor HSCs to the patient or the recipient.

A person cannot receive his own stem cells as his or her each and every cell is defective in that specific gene accountable for the disease.

Explanation:

A two are eukaryotes, and four are prokaryotes. This answer is wrong because animalia, plantae, fungi and protista are eukaryotes.

B four are plants, and two are animals. This answer is wrong because only one kingdom is plants (plantae).

C two are prokaryotes, and four are eukaryotes. This answer is right there are two prokaryotes (eubacteria and archaebacteria) and the others are eukaryotes.
