In 1989, the Velvet Revolution in Czechoslovakia was a nonviolent and peaceful exchange of power. It resulted in freedom from communism and the election of  Vaclav Havel as its new president.

Czechoslovakia's "velvet" also regarded to as "gentle" revolution was caused by three connected factors such as the legacy of 1968, geopolitics and the dissipation of fear.

Vaclav Havel was a Czech statesman, writer and former dissident, who became the last President of Czechoslovakia from 1989 until the dissolution of Czechoslovakia in 1992.
