Sound waves are mechanical waves, longitudinal waves, and do no transmit in a vacuum

Explanation:

Sound waves are periodic disturbance of a medium that generates that are produced when a rapid vibration of an object produces a similar periodic vibration in the particles of a medium. Therefore, sound waves are the periodic vibrations of the particles in the medium.

Sound waves are classified as longitudinal waves. Longitudinal waves are those in which the particles of the medium vibrate in a direction parallel to the direction of propagation of the wave: therefore, the particles vibrate back and forth along the direction of motion of the wave.

Sound waves are able to travel through different mediums: gases, liquids and solids. In particular, they travel faster in solids than liquids, and in liquids than gases, because the particles in solids and liquids are closer together, so the transmission of the wave is more efficient.

Sound waves are also classified as mechanical waves, which are waves that transmit through the vibrations of the particles in a medium. For this reason, sound waves cannot propagate if there is no medium: therefore, sound waves cannot propagate in a vacuum.

C. 20 T

The strength of the magnetic field is equal to 20 Tesla.

Explanation:

Given:

Induced potential difference = V = 12 V

Length of wire = L = 0.20 m

Speed of the moving wire = V = 3.0 m/s

Magnetic field strength = B = ?

A conductor, placed in a uniform magnetic field; when moved at a constant speed with respect to the field, leads to a changing magnetic flux, generating an electromotive force (EMF). Using, Faraday's law of magnetic induction, a moving conductor's induced EMF in terms of the magnetic field strength is given by :

E = L\times V\times B......................(1)

where

E = Induced potential difference (EMF)

L = Length of the conductor

V = Speed of the conductor moved with respect to the magnetic field

B = Strength of uniform magnetic field

Rewriting equation (1) for B, we get

B = \frac{E}{L\times V} = \frac{12}{0.2\times 3} = \frac{12}{0.6} = 20\ T

The strength of magnetic field is equal to 20 Tesla.
