For f(x) = 3x - 12 and g(x) = 2x^2 + 7, find f(g(-5)).
Soloha48 [4]

Answer:

159

Step-by-step explanation:

To evaluate f(g(- 5)), first evaluate g(- 5) then substitute this value into f(x)

g(- 5) = 2(- 5)² + 7 = 50 + 7 = 57

f(57) = (3 × 57) - 12 = 171 - 12 = 159

Fill in the blanks to make an arithmetic sequence
Arlecino [84]
-----------------------------------------
General Equation:
-----------------------------------------
T_n = a_1 + d(n - 1)

-----------------------------------------
Find d :
-----------------------------------------
a_1 = 11, T_7 = 79,
T_7 = 11 + d(7 - 1)
-79 = 11 + 6d
6d = -79 - 11
6d = -90
d = -15

-----------------------------------------
Find general equation :
-----------------------------------------
T_n = 11 + (-15)(n - 1)
T_n = 11 -15n + 15
T_n = 26 -15n

-----------------------------------------
Find the sequence :
-----------------------------------------
T_1 = 26 - 15(1) = 11
T_2 = 26 - 15(2) = -4
T_3 = 26 - 15(3) = -19
T_4 = 26 - 15(4) = -34
T_5 = 26 - 15(5) = -49
T_6 = 26 - 15(6) = -64
T_7 = 26 - 15(7) = -79

---------------------------------------------------------
Answer: 11, -4, -19, -34, -49, -64, -79

If there is a 24 foot board cut into 2 pieces and one piece is 4 times longer than the other what are the lengths of each piece
erik [133]
First set up an equation as your approach. I will use the equation x+4x=24 because that way you are saying that something pluse itself times 4 equals 24 which is what you want.

simplify the equation

5x=24

x=24/5

So you know onw piece will be 24/5 of a foot and the ither qould be that times 4 so 96/24 of a foot. In decimals it would be 4.8 and 19.2
