Do you mean this? 14 \frac{9}{20} I suspect you do therefore I will walk you through the steps and explanations, therefore when you have this answer again, you'd know what to do without doubts!

Firstly, you'd want to make it easier. The easiest way is converting the mixed fraction into a improper fraction. In case you forgotten how to do so, I will list the steps.

Proper/mixed -> Improper:

Improper fractions occur when the top, or numerator, obtains a greater value compared to the denominator, or the number below the bar. However, how do we change a proper or a mixed fraction into such? \frac{Numerator}{Denominator}

1)  First you multiply the whole number by the fraction's denominator. In this case 14 by 20, which gets us 280.

2) Secondly, you add that total to the numerator, which would be 280. 280 + 9 = 289.

3) Then you write your result as the numerator, placing it above the bar!

There you have it! 14 9/20 = 289/20

Now, since we changed our proper into an improper total, we can do the next step in our process of converting fractions to decimals. Next, you simply divide the numerator by the denominator as N / D.

This would give us 14.45. 14.45 would be our answer.

14 9/20 as a decimal.

So, we are essentially trying to make the denominator 100, so that we could easily turn it into a decimal.

So, our first step is to multiply 9/20 by 5/5, so that our denominator is 100.

9/20 × 5/5 = 45/100

So, our new fraction, which is still equal to 14 9/20, is 14 45/100

Because our denominator is 100, we simply take the 45, and put the decimal marking to the left of it, two units.

So, it looks like this :

0.45

However, because we have a whole number, we must put it to the left of the decimal marking.

So, 14 9/20 as a decimal is :

14.45

dem82 [27]
Let l, t, b represent the numbers of lions, tigers, bears, respectively.

2l +3t +3b = 156 . . . . . . . 156 meals per day are supplied
l +t = 3b . . . . . . . . . . . . . . there are 3 times as many great cats as bears
l +t +b = 68 . . . . . . . . . . . there are a total of 68 animals

_____
The last 2 equations tell you
.. 4b = 68
.. b = 17
Subtracting 3 times the last equation from the first gives
.. -l = -48
There are 48 lions, 3 tigers, and 17 bears.
