a) Polynomial equation that represents total area can be written as,

as per figure,

dimension are as follows,

Length = $( 5 + 2x)$,  Breadth = $(6 + 2x)$

∴ Area = Length x Breadth = $(5+2x)$ x $(6+2x)$

So we get equation as,

$4x^{2} +10x+12x+30$  =  $4x^{2} +22x+30$

b) Total area of flower bed when width of border is 1.5 feet

width of border is value of x

∴ x = 1.5 feet

by substituting value of x in equation we get,

Total area = 9 + 33 + 30 = 72 feet
