Charles Dickens’ choice of names for his character shows his motive to express about the nature and personality of them through it. Through such names he wanted his readers to build in their subconscious mind about the character and what his/her actions would be in the story.

Dickens named ‘Compeyson’ which comes from a French word which means ‘companion.’ This word tells about the character ‘Compeyson’ and his role in the story as he was the partner of Magwitch. Also he preyed on people who were weaker than him.

Why does madame schachter scream? why does she later become silent and withdrawn?
Anvisha [2.4K]
She is in the same train car as Eliezer, during their deportation to Auschwitz. She was separated from her husband and two older sons, but is accompanied by a younger son. During that journey she loses her mind. She begins to hysterically scream about a flaming furnace that she sees in the distance. This is terrifying the other people, so she is beaten by some younger men trying to silence her, repeatedly. I think all that made her become silent and withdrawn.
