Explanation: A hypotonic solution is a solution which has less concentration of dissolved solutes, that is a solution with more water concentration and less solute concentration. When a cell is placed in a surrounding medium in which the concentration of the dissolved solute inside the cell is greater than the concentration of the dissolved solute in the surrounding medium, water will move from the surrounding solution (region of high water concentration) into the cell (region of low water concentration). What this means is that there will be movement of water from the surrounding solution (region of low solute concentration or high water concentration) into the cell (region of high solute concentration or low water concentration).
