Ivan III of Russia, also known as Ivan the Great, was the Grand Duke from January 1440 to October 1505. Ivan III increased his power and status as a ruler of Russia by deporting boyars. During his reign, Ivan III stripped boyars of their titles and often if they were suspected of treason, imprisoned or even executed them.
