You suspect that a serious developmental disorder is due to a chromosome abnormality and prepare a karyotype from an affected in

dividual. In analyzing the karyotype, how could you distinguish trisomy from a chromosome structural defect such as a duplication?
The chromosome number in trisomy would be normal; in a duplication, there would be one more chromosome.

In both cases there would be an extra chromosome, but in trisomy there would be three chromatids on one chromosome and in a duplication there would be two chromatids on one chromosome.

In trisomy there would be one extra chromosome; in a duplication, the number of chromosomes would be normal, but one chromosome would have two copies of a portion of the chromosome.

The correct answer is: In trisomy there would be one extra chromosome; in a duplication, the number of chromosomes would be normal, but one chromosome would have two copies of a portion of the chromosome.

Trisomy is a type of polysomy (chromosome aberration with extra number of chromosome/s) and also type of aneuploidy (an abnormal number of chromosomes).

Instead of the normal two (one from mother one from father) chromosomes, people with trisomy have three chromosomes. This condition occurs when chromosome pairs fail to separate properly during cell division.

Duplication, on the other hand, usually refers to a region of DNA that is being duplicated. This condition occurs as products of several types of errors in DNA replication and repair machinery.

Answer:

The answer is the phosphorus cycle. Osteoporosis is the loss of bone mass due to loss of mineralization of bone hence making the bone weak and spongy thence prone to fractures. Phosphates, and calcium, is one of the minerals used to make bone strong by filling in the spaces in between the osteocytes and collagen of bone.

What is required before a hypothesis advances to the status of a scientific theory ?
Vesna [10]
The hypothesis has to survive all attacks on it and continue to provide the best known explanation of the known data. In the scientific method, there are several steps towards the creation of a hypothesis and eventually a theory.
1. Gather data.
2. Construct a hypothesis that explains the data. This hypothesis should be capable of being disproved and should be capable of making predictions.
3. Gather more data. DO NOT cherry pick only that data which supports the hypothesis . If data is uncovered that contradicts the hypothesis , revise or replace the hypothesis.
4. After the hypothesis has survived all attacks on it and is the best known explanation of the data, then it becomes a theory.
5. Note, data collection continues after the hypothesis became a theory and if new data is discovered that is in conflict with the theory, then the theory is modified, or discarded in favor of a new hypothesis or theory.

Why would growing upright be a beneficial adaptation
Murljashka [212]

Answer:

1) Better access to food

2) Safety

3) Protection of vital organs

4) Recreation

5) Improved separation of tasks among organs (division of labor labor)

6) Increased potential energy

Explanation:

1) Better access to food

The upright growth of plants enable them to access the Sun's energy during photosynthesis for the production of glucose and oxygen without the need to move far for food

2) Safety

Growing upright help protect the food produced by the plant such as fruits from crawling animals and also protects the loosely attached leaves and fruits from the impact of kinetic energy of flood waters

3) Protection of vital organs

Having vital organs stored away from areas that cause due to the energy of falling objects or the motion fluid along side particles that the fluid (wind or water) may carry such as debris is important for the survival of an organism. Vital organs are also protected from being trampled upon

4) Recreation

Growing uptight enables the seeds of the fruits of a tree to be dispersed to more distant locations such that the new offspring may find an improved growing environment

5) Improved separation of tasks among organs (division of labor labor)

Growing upright encourages compartmentalization, such that different parts of the plant perform specific functions to prolong the plant life

6) Increased potential energy

The energy output of an organism growing upright is more than one that is growing sideways which results in better survival probability.
