A rectangular box has dimensions 4 by 5 by 2 . Increasing each dimension of the box by the same amount yields a new box with vol

Answer:

2.68 units

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given that a rectangular box has dimensions 4 by 5 by 2.

We have to find that how much each dimension of the original box was increased to create the new box

Let x be the increased value in each dimension

We know that volume of rectangular box=lbh

Volume of original box=4\times 5\times 2=40 cubic units

Volume of new box =6\times 40=240 cubic units

Dimension of new box=(x+4)(5+x)(2+x)

Volume of new box=240

(x+5)(x+4)(x+2)=240

x^3+11x^2+38x+40-240=0

x^3+11x^2+38x-200=0

By graph we get

x=2.679

Round to two decimal places then we get

x=2.68

Hence, each dimension was increased by 2.68 units

the operation:

2*10^1 - 4*10^0 = 20 - 4 = 16

Gives a square number.

How to get a perfect square?

A perfect square is the product of a number and itself.

As you can see in the example, 16 is a square number. Then let's try to get 16.

To get 16 we can use the difference:

20 - 4

So the first therm needs to be equal to 20, and the second equal to 4.

To write 20 in scientific notation we have:

2*10^1

To write 4 in in scientific notation:

4*10^0

Then the operation:

2*10^1 - 4*10^0 = 20 - 4 = 16

Gives a square number.

Help with finding the area and perimeter
torisob [31]
Using the Pythagorean theorem, 12^2 + 12^2 = 288 (equal lengths of a right-angle triangle). the square root of 288 is 16.9 (could be rounded to 17).

Rounding up to 17, the perimeter (P) would be 41. Without rounding, it would be 40.9.

Using the 17 measurement as the Base, the height would come out to 4.82. This can be used to find the Area, which comes out to being 41.

If you would like to double check, the measurements based on the picture are:
Sides: 12, 12, 17
Angles: 45, 45, 90

I hope this helps!
