Is the square root of negative 4 rational or irrational?

Mathematics

The square root of -4 is the same thing as the square root of -1 times the square root of 4.  The square root of 4 is 2, but the square root is an imaginary number, i.  Since it is an imaginary number, it is indeterminate whether it is a rational or irrational (given current number theory) so the square root of negative 4 is neither rational nor irrational.  It is imaginary.

Percy paid $24.10 for a basketball. The price of the basketball was $22.99. What was the sales tax rate?
Bess [88]
First, determine the difference between the amount Percy paid and the price of the basketball. That is, $24.10 - $22.99 = $1.11. Divide this value by the price of the basketball and multiply the quotient by 100% to get the tax rate.
                            ($1.11 / $22.99) x 100% = 4.8%
Thus, the sales tax is approximately equal to 4.8%.

The volume of this cone is 602.88 cubic inches. What is the radius of this cone?
choli [55]

Answer:

8

Step-by-step explanation:

Volume of a cone formula: V = \pi r^{2} \frac{h}{3}

where,

h is the height             <u>9 in  (assuming)</u>

r is the radius              <u>want</u>

v is the volume           <u> 602.88 cubic inches</u>

\pi is                              <u>a = 3.14 </u>

Plug in everything:

602.88 = 3.14r^{2} (\frac{9}{3} )\\602.88 = 3.14r^{2} (3)\\1808.64 = 28.26r^{2}\\\frac{1808.64}{28.26} = \frac{28.26r^{2}}{28.26} \\r^{2} = 64\\r = \sqrt{64} \\r = 8\\or\\r =-8
