After World War II, the US experienced an overall time of economic propserity. Thanks to the GI Bill, millions of veterans were able to come back to the US to benefits such as free college, unemployment payment, and low interest home loans. These types of benefits helped to spark the rise of the suburbs in America.

However, not all individuals experienced this prosperity. Many African American citizens did not have these experiences. Many of these individuals lost their jobs to white men returning home from the war. Others were negatively impacted by the fact that communities prevented black citizens from buying homes in predominantly all white neighborhoods
