Matthew used 36 red grapes and the rest were blueberries.

Let x be the number of blueberries.

Then, the ratio of blueberries to red grapes =\dfrac{x}{36}      (2)

Now, from (1) and (2) , we have

\dfrac{8}{6}=\dfrac{x}{36}\\\\\Rightarrow\ x=\dfrac{36\times8}{6}\\\\\Rightarrow\ x=48

i.e. Number of blueberries =48

Thus, the number of pieces of fruit are in Matthew’s fruit salad =48+36=84

Hence, number of pieces of fruit are in Matthew’s fruit salad=84
