Answer with explanation:

Mean of a data set is defined as sum of all the observation divided by total number of observation.

For, example

Consider the Data set,the cost of five pens,={3,5,8,10,14}

Mean

      =\frac{3+5+8+10+14}{5}\\\\=\frac{40}{5}\\\\=8

Now, Two pens having cost $ 47 and $ 53 is included in the Data set

New data set of Seven pens,={3,5,8,10,14,47,53}

   Mean

      =\frac{3+5+8+10+14+47+53}{7}\\\\=\frac{140}{7}\\\\=20

So, you can see there is variation or Difference between two means.

We can conclude from above two results ,that mean is affected by outlier.

Answer:

it measures spread around the mean. Because of its close links with the mean, standard deviation can be greatly affected if the mean gives a poor measure of central tendency. Standard deviation is also influenced by outliers one value could contribute largely to the results of the standard deviation.

<u><em>Answer:</em></u>

Area of the polygon = 59 in²

<u><em>Explanation:</em></u>

From the given diagram, we can note that the given polygon is composed of an upper triangle, a side triangle and a rectangle

<u>Therefore:</u>

Area of polygon =

area of upper triangle + area of side triangle + area of rectangle

<u>1- getting the area of the upper triangle:</u>

<u>We have:</u>

base of triangle = 7 in

height of triangle = 6 in

<u>Therefore:</u>

Area of upper triangle = \frac{1}{2}*base*height = \frac{1}{2}*7*6=21 in²

<u>2- getting the area of the side triangle:</u>

<u>We have:</u>

base of triangle = 4 in

height of triangle = 5 in

<u>Therefore:</u>

Area of upper triangle = \frac{1}{2}*base*height = \frac{1}{2}*4*5=10 in²

<u>3- getting the area of the rectangle:</u>

<u>We have:</u>

length of rectangle = 7 in

width of rectangle = 4 in

<u>Therefore:</u>

Area of rectangle = length x width = 7 x 4 = 28 in²

<u>4- getting the total area of the polygon:</u>

Area of polygon =

area of upper triangle + area of side triangle + area of rectangle

<u>Therefore:</u>

Area of polygon = 21 + 10 + 28 = 59 in²

Hope this helps :)
