The first Americans arrived as early as 22,000 years ago. It is believed that they crossed a frozen land bridge between Asia and Alaska now called Beringia, and into North America. Some groups may have also edged down the Mississippi River in boats. Evidence suggests that these first Americans were big-game hunters and that their most rewarding prey was the woolly mammoth, which provided them with many of life's essentials. Between 10,000 and 5,000 years ago, people began to experiment with fire in what is now central Mexico. Archeologists believe that corn was the first plant that ancient Americans developed for humans use. The growth of agriculture allowed people to settle down in one place and build communities. This, in turn, led eventually to the development of civilizations.

The Watergate scandal was a scandal in the United States involving former United States President Richard Nixon. He was running against McGovern and it was discovered by a security guard that CIA agent that broke into the Democratic party some months before the presidential election which led to the stealing of some secret papers.

After the agents were found, it was realized that Nixon was involved. It should be noted that when President Nixon agreed to turn over only some of the Watergate tapes to the special prosecutor, the prosecutor stated that he would not accept any of the tapes and this eventually led to his resignation.

The goal of the writers of the Lecompton Constitution is humanitarian aid to slaves. It was proposed for the state of Kansas in response to the anti-slavery position of the 1855 Topeka constitution and other free state advocates. The constitution protected the slave holder rights, enshrined slavery and allowed voters the choice of allowing more slaves to enter the territory.

This of course now exists in the form of the benefits system, in which job seekers are able to claim financial aid whilst they are still looking for work.
