A state owned and operated a silver processing plant located within the state. Because a recent war led to a reduction in the av

ailability of the silver ore as well as a vast increase in the price for silver, the state enacted a statute requiring that the plant sell the processed silver to residents of other states only if there were no outstanding orders from residents within the state. An out-of-state resident who lived closer to the processing plant than any such plant in his own state was prevented from purchasing silver from the plant due to the statute. He sued to have the statute struck down. Should the court strike down the statute?

Answer: D. No, because the state owns and operates the metal plant.

Explanation:

The State owns and operates the plants and so is allowed to discriminate against non residents.

This principle was established by the United States Supreme Court in Reeves, Inc. v. Stake, 447 U.S. 429 (1980).

In the judgement, the Court held that South Dakota had a right to give it's residents preferential treatment in buying cement from a state owned plant.

What is the cocktail party effect? Group of answer choices
MArishka [77]

Answer:

The ability to pay attention to one message and ignore others, yet hear distinctive features of the unattended messages.

Explanation:

In psychology, the term cocktail party effect refers to the phenomenon by which the brain can focus its attention on a particular stimulus while filtering out the other stimuli that are not relevant to it. This phenomenon happens especially at places where there's a lot of noise where the listener is able to focus his/her attention in one particular stimulus. However, if there is a distinctive stimulus (like someone saying your name) you can hear this part of the message even if your attention is focused somewhere else.

Therefore, we can conclude that the cocktail party effect is the ability to pay attention to one message and ignore others, yet hear distinctive features of the unattended messages.

Explain WHY the central region would favor the Central powers.
natali 33 [55]

As well as providing the alliance with its name, the geographical position of the German and Austro-Hungarian empires also gave the Central Powers at least one very important strategic advantage over the Allies they were fighting. It was much easier for the Germans and Austro-Hungarians to move troops, equipment and supplies from one battle front to another because they could do much of this on their domestic railway networks.

For example, the Germans could move 10 infantry divisions from the Eastern Front to the Western Front via a relatively straightforward journey across Germany. It was no more difficult for the Austro-Hungarians to move five infantry divisions from the Eastern Front to the Italian Front, or to the Salonika Front in the Balkans.
