He is correct
basically you have
h times base1+h times bsae 2 all divided by 2
that equals
(hb1+hb2)/2
if we undistribute h using distributive property which is ab+ac=a(b+c)
(h)(b1+b2)/2

if you split the trapezoid in half with a horizontal line that passes through the halfway point of the height and take those two shapes and put them side by side and cut the triangles off the ends and add them, you will see why this is true

the reason is becuase you can get to the area formula from that is height times (b1+b2)/2

Why is the product of two rational numbers always rational?
Mice21 [21]

Let a/b and c/d represent two rational numbers. This means a, b, c,and d are INTEGERS , and b and d are not 0. The product of the numbers is ac/bd , where bd is not 0. Both ac and bd are INTEGERS , and bd is not 0. Because ac/bd is the ratio of two INTEGERS, the product is a rational number.

\frac{a}{b}\cdot \frac{c}{d}= \frac{a\cdot c}{b\cdot d}=\frac{e}{f},\,\,\,\,e,f\in\cal{Z}

Solve y=x^2+23 for x
LenKa [72]

For this case we must clear x from the given equation:

y = x ^ 2 + 23

We passed 23 subtracting the other side of equality:

y-23 = x ^ 2

By definition, a ^ 2 = bis written as a = +/-\sqrt{b}

So, we have:

x = + / -\sqrt{(y-23)

So, the solution of y = x ^ 2 + 23 for x is:

x = + / -\sqrt{(y-23)

Answer:

x = + / -\sqrt{(y-23)

x1=+\sqrt{(y-23)

x2=-\sqrt{(y-23)
