Discuss a number of similarities between Mesoamerican cultures and early river valley civilizations.
love history [14]
Some of the earliest Mesoamerican cultures included the Olmecs, the Mayas, and the Aztecs.  The Olmecs lived near the Gulf of Mexico, in “swampy, lowland river valleys.”  Water drains made out of stone, hieroglyphic writings, and a calendar, were a few of their achievements.  The Mayas lived in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico today.  Their priests were extremely good mathematicians and astronomers.  They developed a system of mathematics with 20 as the base, accurate calendars, and were the first Native Americans that developed a writing system.  The Aztecs lived in Central Mexico.  They were a very advance civilization with a network of canals, bridges, and causeways.  Some of their achievements included chinampas, artificial floating islands used for farming, and a calendar.

Why isn’t there just one history.?
IrinaK [193]

Answer:

Cause, it most likely started by making root histories. Example in like world history they only highlighted the history from Europe and surrounding countries. In American history they highlighted the history from the ones that came over from Europe. What they failed to do is recognize other culures, like African-American history, Mexican American history, or Asian history. (Sorry if I missed anyone) And now all of these histories are available.

It would be almost impossible but it would be wonderful if someone would put all those different histories into the world and or American history. That way you get a broad idea of what people had to do, what they lived through, their accomplishments in society, or to the world. This would stop the stereotypes, and lies we are told regarding other races, and or cultures. It would certainly bridge many gaps that we see in the world today. It would also help all of us to know each other better.

While some historians explain the end of slavery in the americas throughout the nineteenth century as a response to the antislav
SVETLANKA909090 [29]
Britain needed to resolve a conflict between the principles of free trade (which Britain was more and more adopting) and the institution of slavery.

Concerns about slave revolts indeed were indeed part of Britain's pragmatic decisions to end its participation in the slave trade in 1807 and phasing out slavery in its empire starting in 1834.  But the other factor was that the Industrial Revolution was taking over how the British economy operated, and the institution of slavery no longer fit within the new, industrializing economy.

Along with those practical reasons, there was of course much moral pressure applied by the abolitionist movement.  William Wilberforce was a key voice of conscience in Parliament from the moral side of the argument.
