Fabian harvests 10 pounds of tomatoes from his garden. He needs 225 pounds to make a batch of soup. If he sets aside 2.8 pounds

of tomatoes to make spaghetti sauce, how many batches of soup can Fabian make? Drag numbers to write and solve an equation. Numbers may be used once, more than once, or not at all.

He can make 3 batches of soup.

Starting with 10 pounds of tomatoes and taking out the number of pounds he sets aside for spaghetti sauce, 2.8, we have:
10-2.8 = 7.2 pounds left.

0.2 is read as "two tenths," so 7.2 = 7 2/10

We divide this remaining number of pounds by 2 2/5 for each batch of soup:

7 2/10 ÷ 2 2/5

Convert each to an improper fraction:
72/10 ÷ 12/5

Multiply by the reciprocal:
72/10 × 5/12 = 360/120 = 3

Limit as x approaches 0 of csc3x/cotx
jolli1 [7]
Hello Meggieh821, to find the lim as x approaches 0 we can check this by inserting a number that is close to 0 that is coming from the left and from the right.

For instance, we can find the lim by using the number -.00001 for x and solve
csc(3x) / cot(x)
csc(3*-.00001) / cot(-.00001) = .333333... = 1 /3

We also need to check coming from the right. We will use the number .00001 for x
csc(3x) / cot(x)
csc(3*.00001) / cot(.00001) = .333333... = 1 /3

So since we are getting 1/3 from the left and right we can say as x approaches 0 the limit is 1/3

\lim_{x\to 0} \frac{csc(3x)}{cot(x)} = \frac{1}{3}

A farmer wants to fence a rectangular area of 72 square feet next to a river. Find the length and width of the rectangle which u
Arlecino [84]

Answer:

 • 12 ft parallel to the river
 • 6 ft perpendicular to the river

Step-by-step explanation:

The least fence is used when half the total fence is parallel to the river. That is, the shape of the rectangle is twice as long as it is wide.

72 = W(2W)

36 = W²

6 = W . . . . . . the width perpendicular to the river

12 = 2W . . . . the length parallel to the river

_____

Development of this relation

Let T represent the total length of the fence for some area A. Then if x is the length along the river, the width is y=(T-x)/2, and the area is ...

 A = xy = x(T -x)/2

Note that the equation for area is that of a parabola with zeros at x=0 and at x=T. That is, for some fence length T, the area will be a maximum at the vertex of this parabola. That vertex is located halfway between the zeros, at ...

x = (0 +T)/2 = T/2

The corresponding area width (y) is ...

 y = (T -T/2)/2 = T/4

Equivalently, the fence length T will be a minimum for some area A when x=T/2 and y=T/4. This is the result we used above.
