What is the equation of the line?

Mathematics

A line has an equation of a form,

y=ax+b

From a graph we can pick two points on the line, say A and B where,

A(x_1,y_2),B(x_2,y_2)\longrightarrow A(0,0),B(1,-1)

Using their coordinates we are able to calculate slope.

a=\dfrac{\Delta{y}}{\Delta{x}}=\dfrac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}=\dfrac{-1-0}{1-0}=-1

Hence,

y=-1\cdot x+b

The x and y terms can be replaced with coordinates of one point either A or B. I'll pick A.

0=-1\cdot0+b

And now solve for b.

0=0+b\Longrightarrow b=0

Hence,

y=-1\cdot x+0

Simply,

\boxed{y=-x}

Hope this helps.

Once you remember the definition of a log, the answer to this question will literally fall out of your pencil.

First, ' Ln ' means 'natural log' ... logs to the base of ' e '.

Definition of the natural log of a number:
In order to get the number, what power do I have to raise ' e ' to ?

OK.  What power do you have to raise ' e ' to in order to get  1/e²  ?

Isn't  1/e²  the same thing as  e⁻²  ?

So, in order to get  1/e² , you have to raise ' e ' to the  -2  power .

In math-speak:    Ln(1/e²) = <em><u>-2</u></em> .

geniusboy [140]

Answer:

(2.54×12) ×5280

Step-by-step explanation:

Since there are 2.54cm in an inch, multiply 2.54 by 12 to find out how many cm there are in a foot. Then you multiply that by 5280

Find the absolute maximum value for the function f(x) = x^2 − 4, on the interval [–3, 0) U (0, 2].
Andreyy89

Answer:

5

Step-by-step explanation:

The function y=x^2 -4 is

  • decreasing for all x\in [-3,0);
  • is increasing for all x\in (0,2]

(see attached diagram for details).

The maximum value of the function is at endpoints -3 or 2. find y(-3) and y(2):

y(-3)=(-3)^2-4=9-4=5\\ \\y(2)=4^2-4=0

So, the maximum value is 5.

Consider the rule y = 5x + 7.
maksim [4K]

Answer:

see below

Step-by-step explanation:

Consider the rule y = 5x + 7.

a. How many tiles are in Figure 0?

In figure 0, we let x=0

y = 5*0+7 = 0+7 = 7

b. Which figure has 37 tiles?

This means y = 37

37 = 5x+7

Subtract 7 from each side

37-7 = 5x+7-7

30 = 5x

Divide by 5

30/5 = 5x/5

6 =x

Figure 6 has 37 tiles

c. In the equation y = mx + b, what do the letters m and b represent?

m is the slope or how much it is increasing each time x increases by 1  and b is how much we start with when x =0
