Andrej [43]

In this qn, you use the mole formula,

amount (mol) = mass (g) ÷ molar mass

(molar mass is the mass number of an element, which u can find by referring to the periodic table)

so by subbing in the values given to you, you can find the answer

5. amount of Cu = 55.9 ÷ 63.5 = 0.880mol (3sf)

6. amount of N2 = 340 ÷ 2(14.0) = 12.1mol (3sf)

(note: you multiply the molar mass of N by 2 as there are 2 N atoms)

for qn 7 and 8, youre finding the mass and not the amount. By bringing the molar mass over to the other side of the formula, you get

mass = amount (mol) × molar mass

thus,

7. mass of Fe = 0.063 × 55.8 = 3.52g (3sf)

8. mass of H2 = 94.7 × 2(1.0) = 47.4g (3sf)

extra things to take note of:

- likewise, you can also find the molar mass of an element by using

molar mass = mass(g) ÷ amount(mol)

^^ this is commonly only needed when you need to find the molar mass of an isotope. the question will give you the amount and mass of the element, and you just need to factor them in to find your answer.

- typically, you use 3 sf in your final answer and 5sf in your working. remember to write (3sf) at the end of your number statement when necessary.

- when you get an answer of (eg.) 0.6mol, you still need to write it in 3sf, so your answer would be 0.600mol

Given the values for C (2.5) and O (3.5), calculate the electronegativity difference in a carbon monoxide bond, CO
34kurt

Answer:

ΔEN CO   = 1.0

Explanation:

To calculate the electronegativity difference, we have to substract the element which has the highest EN to the other, that has a low value.

For this case EN from O - EN from C

Electronegativity is a property of the periodic table that increases diagonally, where Fr and Rb are the elements of less EN while F is the most electronegative element, with a value of 4. This is because F is an element with a high ionization energy and a negative electronic affinity.

ΔEN CO  = 3.5 - 2.5 = 1.0

Electronegativity (EN) describes the ability of an atom to compete for

electrons with other atoms to which it is attached.

Write a balanced chemical equation, including physical state symbols, for the decomposition of liquid nitroglycerin () into gase
Marat540 [252]

Answer:

4C3H5N3O9 (l)  ---------> 12CO2 (g)  +  H20 (g)  + 6N2 (g) + 6O2 (g)

Explanation:

Nitroglcerin is a drug basically used to treat chest pain. It is a dense, colourless and explo9sive liquid. Its molecular formula is C3H5N3O9.

It decomposes to gaseous dinitrogen, gaseous dioxygen, gaseous water and gaseous carbon di oxide

The equation for its decomposition is shown below;

4C3H5N3O9 (l)  ---------> 12CO2 (g)  +  H20 (g)  + 6N2 (g) + 6O2 (g)

Identify the followings as a element or compound c12 h22o11
Anastaziya [24]

Answer:

Compound

Explanation:

The given specie is a compound.

A compound is made up of two or more kinds of atoms/elements joined together in a definite grouping.

  • The properties of a compound are distinct and different from those of the individual elements that are combined in its make-up.
  • For this given specie, the elements are carbon, hydrogen and oxygen.
  • So, this is a compound.

Elements are distinct substances that cannot be split - up into simpler substances. Such substances consist of only one kind of atom
