A hypothesis is a prediction of what a scientist thinks will happen when they conduct an experiment. These predictions can help guide investigations and the outcomes of which can help to explain the causes of certain observations. Due to trial and error, over time scientists determine whether evidence collected supports the hypotheses or contradicts it. The best supported hypotheses can help scientists in understanding the natural world.
