Students are modeling how genes produce proteins by using wooden tiles with letters to represent the genes. In this model, the w

ords that the combination of letters produce represents the proteins. In this model, which of the following best represents a mutation?
1-Combining many different words to create a complete message
2-Creating any word that is spelled exactly the same way forward and backward
3-Changing one or more of the letters so that they spell a different word or no word at all

Answer:

3-Changing one or more of the letters so that they spell a different word or no word at all

Explanation:

Genes are segments of the DNA that encodes the synthesis of protein. However, changes called MUTATION occurs to genes. MUTATION is any change in the nucleotide sequence of a gene caused by mistakes during replication or induced. Mutations, depending on how it occurs, results in differing effects on the protein. It can cause the production of a different protein, it can cause no protein to be formed due to the fact that a stop codon was encountered, it can also end up not changing the sequence that holds information about the protein.

According to the question, wooden tiles with letters represents the genes. These wooden tiles are combined by the students in such a way that the words produced represents the protein. A mutation, as defined earlier, means a change in one of the letters (genes) that will cause their combination to produce a word that is different from originally planned (different protein) or no word at all (no protein).

If a person adds benzidene to cells grown in a test tube. Within minutes, she see’s the cells energy level fall and the metaboli
mart [117]

Answer:

B. Mitochondria

Explanation:

  • Mitochondria are known as the power house of the cell. They are the sites of cellular respiration that breaks down glucose into energy molecules such as ATP and energy storage molecules such as NADH and FADH2.
  • In this scenario, since the cell's energy levels fall and metabolism ceases, the organelle most likely affected is the mitochondria.
  • If mitochondria are affected, glucose will not be metabolized to ATP and the cell will not have sufficient energy for cellular functions.
