Why can you NOT combine 3x and 5x^2 ?

Mathematics

Although they are the same variable, you cannot add two variables raised to different powers. 3x^1 + 5x^2 cannot work, but 3x^2 + 5x^2 can. Also, if you are multiplying them, they would combine to be 15x^3, as 3 and 5 (The coefficients) multiply together and x^2 times x^1 = x^3.

I hope that helps.

Answer quickly I'll give brainliest <br><br>3(x+2)-(2x-7)&lt;(5x-1)-2(x+6)
aivan3 [116]

Answer:

x=+5

Step-by-step explanation:

3(x+2)-2x-7=-(-5x-1)-2(x+6)

We move all terms to the left:

3(x+2)-2x-7-(-(-5x-1)-2(x+6))=0

We add all the numbers together, and all the variables

-2x+3(x+2)-(-(-5x-1)-2(x+6))-7=0

We multiply parentheses

-2x+3x-(-(-5x-1)-2(x+6))+6-7=0

We calculate terms in parentheses: -(-(-5x-1)-2(x+6)), so:

-(-5x-1)-2(x+6)

We multiply parentheses

-(-5x-1)-2x-12

We get rid of parentheses

5x-2x+1-12

We add all the numbers together, and all the variables

3x-11

Back to the equation:

-(3x-11)

We add all the numbers together, and all the variables

x-(3x-11)-1=0

We get rid of parentheses

x-3x+11-1=0

We add all the numbers together, and all the variables

-2x+10=0

We move all terms containing x to the left, all other terms to the right

-2x=-10

x=-10/-2

x=+5

Kaj is flying a kite, holding her hands a distance of 3.5 feet above the ground and letting all the kite’s string play out. She
Savatey [412]

Using trigonometric ratio, the height of the ground above the ground to the nearest hundredth is 44.85 ft

The situation forms a right angle triangle.

<h3>What is a right angle triangle?</h3>

Right angle triangle has one of its angles as 90 degrees. The sides and angles can be found using trigonometric ratios.

Therefore, the length of the string is the hypotenuse side of the triangle formed . The opposite side of the triangle is the height of the kite form the ground.

Therefore, the height of the kite form the ground can be found as follows;

sin 33° = opposite / hypotenuse

sin 33° = h / 75

cross multiply

h = 75 × sin 33

h = 40.8479276261

h = 40.84

The height of kite from ground = 40.847 + 3.5  = 44.3479276261 = 44.85 ft

The number of students in Mrs. Patrick's piano class decreased by 15% in 2 years to 17 students. How many students did she have
guapka [62]

Answer:

20 students

Step-by-step explanation:

If the class decreased by 15%, the students that she has now (17) represents a percentaje of:

100% - 15% = 85%

so<u> the 17 students are 85% of what she had</u>:

Students         Percentage

      17          ⇒        85%

and we are looking for how many students she had 2 years ago, thus we are looking for the <u>100%</u> of students (the original number of studens). If we represent this number by x:

Students         Percentage

      17          ⇒        85%

      x          ⇒        100%

and we solve this problem using the <u>rule of three</u>: multiply the cross quantities on the table( 17 and 100) and then divide by the remaining amount (85):

x = 17*100/85

x = 1700/85

x=20

2 years ago she had 20 students
