Trying to factor by splitting the middle term

Factoring <span> b2-4b+4</span>
The first term is, <span> <span>b2</span> </span> its coefficient is <span> 1 </span>.
The middle term is, <span> -4b </span> its coefficient is <span> -4 </span>.
The last term, "the constant", is <span> +4 </span>

Step-1 : Multiply the coefficient of the first term by the constant <span>  1 • 4 = 4</span>

Step-2 : Find two factors of  4  whose sum equals the coefficient of the middle term, which is  <span> -4 </span>.
<span><span>     </span></span>

<span><span>-4   +   -1   =   -5</span><span>     -2   +   -2   =   -4   That's it</span></span>

Step-3 : Rewrite the polynomial splitting the middle term using the two factors found in step 2 above,  -2  and  -2
                     <span>b2 - 2b</span> - 2b - 4

Step-4 : Add up the first 2 terms, pulling out like factors :
                    b • (b-2)
Add up the last 2 terms, pulling out common factors :
                    2 • (b-2)
Step-5 : Add up the four terms of step 4 :
                    (b-2)  •  (b-2)
             Which is the desired factorization

Answer:

Before using the quadratic, make sure the right side is equal to 0. Check.

The quadratic formula gives the solution for an equation ,

which is .

In this case, our "a" value can be considered 1, b = -4, and c = 4.

Let's plug these values into the quadratic formula.

Another easy way to solve would be by factoring.

We would find two numbers that add to b and mutliply to equal ac.

Split our bx term into these two values

Factor and simplify.

(These numbers would be -2 and -2. Then we'd get

b² - 2b - 2b + 4. Factor the first two terms...

b(b-2) - 2b + 4. Factor the last two so that you get the same thing in the ()'s

b(b-2) -2(b-2) Combine like terms.

(b-2)(b-2) or (b-2)² is our factored form.

This is going to be equal to zero, so (b-2)² = 0.

We then look at our factors and note that any number which can cause it to equal zero is correct. Both factors are (b-2). In that case, b=2.

There's also a lot of shortcuts you could've done there such as taking the two numbers you got (say, m and n) and putting them directly into (x+n)(x+m) whenever your a value is 1.)

John and Martha are contemplating having children, but John’s brother has galactosemia (an autosomal recessive disease) and Mart
Rina8888 [55]
<h2>Answer:</h2>

Probability=\frac{1}{24}

<h2>Step-by-step explanation:</h2>

As the question states,

John's brother has Galactosemia which states that his parents were both the carriers.

Therefore, the chances for the John to have the disease is = 2/3

Now,

Martha's great-grandmother also had the disease that means her children definitely carried the disease means probability of 1.

Now, one of those children married with a person.

So,

Probability for the child to have disease will be = 1/2

Now, again the child's child (Martha) probability for having the disease is = 1/2.

Therefore,

<u>The total probability for Martha's first child to be diagnosed with Galactosemia will be,</u>

Probability=\frac{2}{3}\times \frac{1}{2}\times \frac{1}{2}\times \frac{1}{4}\\Probability=\frac{1}{24}

(Here, we assumed that the child has the disease therefore, the probability was taken to be = 1/4.)

<em><u>Hence, the probability for the first child to have Galactosemia is \frac{1}{24}</u></em>

What is the standard form of the linear function that passes
babunello [35]

standard form for a linear equation means

• all coefficients must be integers, no fractions

• only the constant on the right-hand-side

• all variables on the left-hand-side, sorted

• "x" must not have a negative coefficient

(\stackrel{x_1}{4}~,~\stackrel{y_1}{1})\qquad (\stackrel{x_2}{2}~,~\stackrel{y_2}{-2}) ~\hfill \stackrel{slope}{m}\implies \cfrac{\stackrel{rise} {\stackrel{y_2}{-2}-\stackrel{y1}{1}}}{\underset{run} {\underset{x_2}{2}-\underset{x_1}{4}}}\implies \cfrac{-3}{-2}\implies \cfrac{3}{2} \\\\\\ \begin{array}{|c|ll} \cline{1-1} \textit{point-slope form}\\ \cline{1-1} \\ y-y_1=m(x-x_1) \\\\ \cline{1-1} \end{array}\implies y-\stackrel{y_1}{1}=\stackrel{m}{\cfrac{3}{2}}(x-\stackrel{x_1}{4})

\stackrel{\textit{multiplying both sides by }\stackrel{LCD}{2}}{2(y-1)=2\left( \cfrac{3}{2}(x-4) \right)}\implies 2y-2 = 3(x-4)\implies 2y-2=3x-12 \\\\\\ -3x+2y-2=-12\implies -3x+2y=-10\implies \stackrel{\times -1\textit{ to both sides}}{3x-2y=10}

18. equivalent
16x5 does equal 10x8
19. equivalent
13-0 does equal 0
20. Not equivalent
12-2 doesn’t not equal 7-3
For all three of these equations you have to use PEMDAS (systems of equations) so first you solve everything that’s in parentheses, then any exponents, followed by multiplication, division, addition, and lastly subtraction. You MUST follow that order to get the correct answer.

Sindrei [870]
Convert G to kg
560/1000=.56 kg a day

If the bake off was 5 days
.56*5= 2.8kg... per week
2.8kg*3= 8.4 kg for 3 weeks

If it was 7 days
.56*7 = 3.92 kg per week
3.92*3= 11.76 kg for 3 weeks
