Explanation:

The Regents of the University of California v. Bakke is a reverse discrimination case that ruled that colleges cannot use racial quotas in their admissions processes because to do so violates the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment. As one factor for admission, however, the Supreme Court decision specified that race can be used.  Allan Bakke's college GPA and test scores were higher than any of the minority students admitted to the University of California Davis Medical School in the two years his applications were rejected. Bakke argued in the California courts and then in the Supreme Court that he was denied admission only because of his race.
