They probably couldn’t have had any kind of medication that could prevent, heal, or make a disease go away. If it was a disease brought by Europeans, they would be at a greater threat since they’ve never encountered it before and have no immunity to it.

People would gather at their homes or offices or on the street to listen to it. Also, fans had more than an outline of the action the played out visually allowing better understanding and wider appreciation for the sport.
