Chemistry

Answer:

Theoretical yield = 3.52 g

Percent yield =65.34%

Explanation:

Given data:

Mass of HgO = 46.8 g

Theoretical yield of O₂ = ?

Percent yield of O₂ = ?

Actual yield of O₂ =  2.30 g

Solution:

Chemical equation:

2HgO  →   2Hg + O₂

Number of moles of HgO = mass/ molar mass

Number of moles of HgO = 46.8 g / 216.6 g/mol

Number of moles of HgO = 0.22 mol

Now we will compare the moles of HgO with oxygen.

                         HgO             :             O₂

                             2               :               1

                            0.22           :          1/2×0.22 = 0.11 mol

Theoretical yield:

Mass of oxygen = number of moles × molar mass

Mass of oxygen =  0.11 mol × 32 g/mol

Mass of oxygen = 3.52 g

Percent yield :

Percent yield = actual yield / theoretical yield × 100

Percent yield = 2.30 g/ 3.52 g × 100

Percent yield =65.34%

Attractions between polarized molecules (intermolecular bonding) are called ____________ bonds and can also form between polariz
elena-s [515]
Polar molecules are characterize by an imbalance of electrostatic forces between the molecules. It arises when the electronegativity of the elements differ greatly. Since there is a great difference of the partial charges, the intermolecular or intramolecular force involved here is the electrostatic bond.

Which transformation could take place at the cathode of an electrochemical cell?
Mila [183]

The answer is Reduction.

What is Reduction ?

  • Reduction is a process that involves the addition of hydrogen or any other electropositive element or the removal of oxygen or any other electronegative element, according to classical or older concepts.
  • The process through which an atom or an ion gains one or more electrons is known as reduction, according to the electronic idea.
  • At the anode, oxidation takes place while reduction happens at the cathode. Anode is a positive electrode in this instance, and cathode is a negative electrode.

An electrochemical cell is a device that can use electrical energy to facilitate chemical reactions inside of it or create electrical energy from those reactions. These gadgets can change chemical energy into electrical energy or the other way around.

Hence, Reduction takes place at the cathode of an electrochemical cell.

How many moles are in 4,55 X 10^23 molecules of CO2 (rounded)
Kitty [74]

Answer:

0.7556 mol

Explanation:

each mole has 6.022 X 10²³ particles (our particles are molecules in this situation)

(4.55 X 10²³)/(6.022 X 10²³) = 4.55/6.022 = 0.7556
