Magna Carta was a charter of Rights that that states the protection of church rights, baron from illegal imprisonment, justice and also limits the feudal payments to the crown.

Further Explanation:-

Magna Carta was known as the First Document which was imposed on the king of England and this document was made to limit the powers by law as well as protection of Civil Rights. Magna Carta was the document that was signed by King John in June 1215 and this document was the first document that brought limitations to the powers of the king. The clause 61 of this document stated that the committee which had twenty-five barons were given the right to meet and overrule the will of the King which posed a serious challenge to John’s authority as a monarch who was ruling the country. This charter was renounced as soon as when these twenty-five barons left London and the pope annulled the document and during the time of annulment of that document by pope, he said that this document impaired the authority of the church over the authority over the papal territories in regards to England and Ireland. Post that England moved towards the civil war as the barons were trying to replace the Monarch which they used to dislike as an alternative.

How did the rise of huge industrial cartels affect free market competition?
Step2247 [10]
Cartels could fix prices and sell at a loss to strangle out competition. Then raise prices afterward which would cover all previous losses.
They could generate income by horizontal integration which would be possibly controlling all retail sales of a certain product.
They could also generate income through vertical integration which meant owning a large portion of the industry (possibly mining) which provided the raw material, the means of production (factories, for example), the means of transporting the product to market (rail roads for example), and even owning the means of selling the product(s) (retailing). They could set the price and costs all along the way. They could also exploit their workers by being the 'only show in town' and therefore setting wages low and working hours high. If a vertically integrated company had to show their books to government auditors they could try to make a case to show a small advantage over competitors at each level of their operation which would come out overall as a major advantage which could put others out of business.
A couple of industries to look at would be the railroads and oil. People to research: Andrew Carnegie, J. D. Rockefeller and other industrialists/robber barons. A student may want to read the works of some of the 'muckrakers' of the era.

Many Americans first grew aware of the life and death struggle of civil rights activists when
PSYCHO15rus [73]
C--Television is how most Americans became aware of the Civil Rights Movement.

Television brought the movement and the reaction of police officers into the living rooms of every American. It is easy to dismiss the writings of people you don't know but to see the evidence of abuse and inequality is harder to ignore.

Explain how Chinese philosophies presented a different version of an ideal ruler
Alex777 [14]

The Zhou dynasty ruled China from c. 1046 BC to 256 BC. They believed they had the Mandate of Heaven, God's divine will for them to rule. Such mandate consisted of a cycle, so every dynasty would eventually decay after a period of prosperity, become authoritarian, Heaven would sent signs to show the people the ruler has lost its favour, such as droughts and famine, so the people would riot against the emperor, overthrow him and a new leader would rise to occupy his place, starting a new dynasty cycle of prosperity, decay, disasters and riots.

The Zhou used a relationship system called feudalism, they gave some loyal supporters lands and absolute power over the peasants working those lands, in exchange for soldiers. This system worked for a while until 700 BC, when landlords began fighting each other. These troubled times led some scholars to debate the proper way to rule. Three major philosophies come from this.

- Confucianism: it establishes basic relationships of people, ruler and subject, husband and wife, father and son, older sibling and younger sibling, and friend and friend. The first element is the one that rules, and the other one must obey. It establishes that the correct way of ruling is by example: the first element of it pair must set good example.

- Daoism: based on the ancient Chinese idea of the Dao, or "the Way", the force that gives order to the natural universe. It established that everyone must find dao by themselves, too many rules conflicts with the natural flow. So the best way of ruling is by ruling the least.

- Legalism: this particular conception believes that people are selfish and act upon their own interest. So good ruling would be to establish strong laws, to enforce them and to set harsh punishments to those who break them, in order to create some order in society.
