According to Washington, the colonists needed to accept the taxes and have representation in Parliament in order to pass taxes on them in the first place.
George Washington defended that the Colonies should be represented in the British Parliament so they could be taxed. In 1769 Washington brought a series of resolutions before the Virginia House of Burgesses as a response to the Townshend Acts of 1767.
