Islam has two major groups which are Sunni and Shi'a Islam. Their main difference is in who they believe is to lead the Islamic community. The Shiites (Shi'a Islam) give importance to Ali, they believe he is Muhammad's heir, While the Sunni do not recognize Ali as being Prophet Muhammad's rightful successor. The Sunni believe that Prophet Muhammad had no rightful heir.
