The nth term of the sequence

Mathematics

First we need to find what kind of sequence we have. To do that we are going to test if the sequence as a difference d, in which case it will be an arithmetic sequence, or a ratio r, in which case it will be geometric sequence.
The formula to find d is d=a_{n}-a_{n-a}
where
a_{n} is the current term in the sequence
a_{n-1} is the previous term in the sequence
The formula to find r is r= \frac{a _{n} }{a _{n-1} }
where
a_{n} is the current term in the sequence
a_{n-1} is the previous term in the sequence
- For a_{n}=10 and a_{n-1}=7
  d=10-3
  d=3
  r= \frac{10}{7}
- For a_{n}=4 and a_{n-1}=1:
  d=4-1
  d=3
  r= \frac{4}{1}
  r=4
Since d is equal in both procedures whereas r is not, we can conclude that our sequence is an arithmetic sequence.
Now we are going to use the explicit formula of an arithmetic sequence a_{n}=a_{1}+(n-1)d
where
a_{n} is the nth term
a_{1} is the first term
n is the position of the term in the sequence
d is the difference
We know that a_{1}=-2 and d=3, so lets replace those values in our formula:
a_{n}=-2+(n-1)(3)
a_{n}=-2+3n-3
a_{n}=3n-5

We can conclude that the correct answer is <span>D) an = 3n - 5</span>

Find the perimeter of this figure to the nearest hundreth use 3.14 as an approximate for pi
maks197457 [2]

Answer: 40.56ft.

Step-by-step explanation:

First, lets find the perimeter of the half circle: c = 2pi(r)

pi = 3.14

r = 4

3.14 * 4 = 12.56

12.56 * 2 = 25.12

Then, because it is only have a circle, divide by 2.

25.12/2 = 12.56

10 + 10 + 8 + 12.56 = 40.56

Solve for x : 1/a+b+x =1/a+1/b+1/x
ANTONII [103]

Answer:

  x ∈ {-a, -b}

Step-by-step explanation:

  1/(a+b+x) = 1/a +1/b +1/x . . . . given

  abx = bx(a+b+x) +ax(a+b+x) +ab(a+b+x) . . . . multiply by abx(a+b+x)

  (a+b)x^2 +(a+b)^2x +ab(a+b) = 0 . . . . . subtract abx

  x^2 + (a+b)x +ab = 0 . . . . . divide by (a+b)

This is a quadratic equation in x. It will have two solutions, as given by the quadratic formula.

  x = (-(a+b) ±√((a+b)^2 -4(1)(ab))/(2(1)) = (-(a+b) ± |a -b|)/2

Without loss of generality, we can assume a ≥ b, so |a -b| ≥ 0. Then ...

  x = (-a -b -a +b)/2 = -a

  x = (-a -b +a -b)/2 = -b

There are two solutions: x ∈ {-a, -b}.

Make n the subject of the formula:<br> M=3n
stepladder [879]
M=3n
divide both sides by 3
M/3=3n/3
on the left hand side, the numerator constant cuts the denominator 3
therefore, n=M/3
