The Qin dynasty did use coins to conduct business, this dynasty indeed introduced the first unified currency of the Empire, and this newly standard currency promoted the exchange of commodities and economic development. It consisted of bronze coins with square holes in the centers, these coins were called "Ban Liang." Gold was also used, especially for large money transactions.
