Nitrogen is in Group V and has five valence electrons, so it needs to gain three electrons to get a full valence shell. :)

it has 5 valance electrons, therefore it only needs to gain 3 more

An irregular chunk of iron has a density of 7.87 g/cm3. A 14.5 gram chunk is added to a graduated cylinder. If the final volume
bulgar [2K]

Answer:

37.96 mL

Explanation:

From the question given above, the following data were obtained:

Density (D) of iron = 7.87 g/cm³

Mass (m) of iron = 14.5 g

Volume of Cylinder + Iron = 39.8 mL

Volume of Cylinder =?

Next, we shall determine the volume of the chunk of iron. This can be obtained as follow:

Density (D) of iron = 7.87 g/cm³

Mass (m) of iron = 14.5 g

Volume (V) of iron =?

D = m/V

7.87 = 14.5 /V

Cross multiply

7.87 × V = 14.5

Divide both side by 7.87

V = 14.5 / 7.87

V = 1.84 cm³

Recall:

1 cm³ = 1 mL

Therefore,

1.84 cm³ = 1.84 mL

Therefore, the volume of the chunk of iron is 1.84 mL.

Finally, we shall determine the starting volume of the cylinder as follow:

Volume of Cylinder + Iron = 39.8 mL

Volume of Iron = 1.84 mL.

Volume of Cylinder =?

Volume of Cylinder = (Volume of Cylinder + Iron) – Volume of Iron

Volume of Cylinder = 39.8 – 1.84

Volume of Cylinder = 37.96 mL

Therefore the starting volume of cylinder is 37.96 mL

A 25.0 mLsample of an acetic acid solution is titrated with a 0.175 M NaOH solution. The equivalence point is reached when 37.5
matrenka [14]

Answer:

0.263M of CH₃COOH is the concentration of the solution.

Explanation:

The reaction of acetic acid (CH₃COOH) with NaOH is:

CH₃COOH + NaOH → CH₃COO⁻Na⁺ + H₂O

1 mole of acetic acid reacts per mole of NaOH to produce sodium acetate and water.

In the equivalence point, moles of acetic acid are equal to moles of NaOH and moles of NaOH are:

0.0375L × (0.175 moles / L) = 6.56x10⁻³ moles of NaOH = moles of CH₃COOH.

As the sample of acetic acid had a volume of 25.0mL = 0.025L:

6.56x10⁻³ moles of CH₃COOH / 0.0250L =

0.263M of CH₃COOH is the concentration of the solution

Dalton incorporated the law of conversation of mass into his atomic theory by asserting that?
Nat2105 [25]

Answer;

A. atoms are indivisible.

Dalton incorporated the law of conversation of mass into his atomic theory by asserting that atoms are indivisible.

Explanation;

Dalton's atomic theory proposed that all matter was composed of atoms, indivisible and indestructible building blocks. While all atoms of an element were identical, different elements had atoms of differing size and mass.

-According to Dalton; Elements are made of extremely small particles called atoms. Atoms of a given element are identical in size, mass and other properties; atoms of different elements differ in size, mass and other properties. Atoms cannot be subdivided, created or destroyed.

If 40.0 g of water at 70.0°c is mixed with 40.0 g of ethanol at 10.0°c, what is the final temperature of the mixture?
FinnZ [79.3K]
When the heat lost by water = heat gained by ethanol

∴( M* C * ΔT )w = (M*C*ΔT ) eth

when Mw mass of water = 40 g

C specific heat of water = 4.18

ΔT = (70- Tf)

and M(eth) mass (ethanol) = 40 g

C specific heat of ethanol = 2.44

ΔT = (Tf - 10 )

by substitution:

40* 4.18 * (70 - Tf) = 40 * 2.44 * (Tf-10)

∴Tf = 47.9 °C
