Answer:

a) The maximum contact pressure is 274.58 MPa and the width of contact is 0.058 mm

b) The maximum shear stress is 82.37 MPa at a distance of 0.023 mm

Explanation:

Given data:

L = 20 mm

F = 250 N

r₁ = 10 mm

r₂ = 15 mm

v = 0.3

E = 2.07x10⁵ MPa

A=\frac{1-V_{1}^{2}  }{E_{1} }-\frac{1-V_{2}^{2}  }{E_{2} } =\frac{1-0.3^{2} }{2.07x10^{5} } *2=8.79x10^{-6}

a) The maximum contact pressure is:

P=0.564*\sqrt{\frac{F*(\frac{1}{r_{1} }+\frac{1}{r_{2} })  }{LA} } =0.564*\sqrt{\frac{250*(\frac{1}{10} +\frac{1}{15} )}{20*8.79x10^{-6} } } =274.58MPa

The width of contact is:

b=1.13*\sqrt{\frac{FA}{L(\frac{1}{r_{1} }+\frac{1}{r_{2} })  } } =1.13*\sqrt{\frac{250*8.79x10^{-6} }{20*(\frac{1}{10} +\frac{1}{15} )} } =0.029mm\\2*b=0.058mm

b) According the graph elastic stresses below the surface, for v = 0.3, the maximum shear stress is

T = 0.3*P = 0.3 * 274.58 = 82.37 MPa

At a distance of

0.8*b = 0.8*0.029 = 0.023 mm

6. What is the wavelength of a wave that is traveling at 30 m/s and has a frequency of 3.2 Hz?
lidiya [134]

Answer:

6. 9.4 m

7. 1050 m/s.

Explanation:

6. Determination of the wavelength

Velocity (v) = 30 m/s

Frequency (f) = 3.2 Hz

Wavelength (λ) =?

v = λf

30 = λ × 3.2

Divide both side by 3.2

λ = 30 / 3.2

λ = 9.4 m

Thus, the wavelength of the wave is 9.4 m.

7. Determination of the speed of the wave.

Wavelength (λ) = 350 m

Frequency (f) = 3 Hz

Velocity (v) =.?

v = λf

v = 350 × 3

v = 1050 m/s

Thus, the speed of the wave is 1050 m/s

A cell membrane has a thickness of about 7 nm. How many cell membranes would it take to make a stack 2.3 in high?
Alisiya [41]

Answer:

There are 8345714 cell membranes.

Explanation:

It is given that,

The thickness of a cell membrane is 7 nm

We need to find the number of cell membranes would it take to make a stack 2.3 inches high.

Firstly, the units must be same i.e. converting 2.3 inches to m

1 inch = 0.0254 m

2.3 inches = 0.05842 m

Let there are n number of cell membranes. So,

n=\dfrac{\text{stack height}}{\text{1 membrane thickness}}\\\\n=\dfrac{0.05842}{7\times 10^{-9}}\\\\n=8345714.28

or

n = 8345714 cell membranes

How do you find acceleration due to gravity with time and height given?
Feliz [49]

Here, height is given which will be the distance for a freely falling object.

The velocity will be

v=\text{ }\frac{h}{t}

and the acceleration will be

a=\frac{v}{t}

In this way, the formula works.
