How to find the midpoint of a line segment with 2 given point?

If the 2 given points are endpoints, then we're in business.  The formula for the midpoint is M=( \frac{ x_{1}+ x_{2} }{2}, \frac{ y_{1} + y_{2} }{2}).  If the endpoints of our segment are the coordinates (1,2) and (12,14), our formula would be filled in as follows: M=( \frac{1+12}{2}, \frac{2+14}{2}) which simplifies to (13/2, 8).  See?  It's pretty simple once you know how to do it.

Is the following expression true or false? Show your work.
Paul [167]

Answer: True

Solution:

Rearrange the equation to the LHS:

[x^2 + 8x + 16] · [x^2 – 8x + 16] - (x^2 – 16)^2 = 0

Factoring  x^2+8x+16

x^2 - 4x - 4x - 16

= (x-4)  •  (x-4)

= = (x+4)2

So now we have an equation

(x + 4)^2 • (x - 4)^2 -  (x^2 - 16)^2  = 0

Step 2: Evaluate the following:

(x+4)2   =    x^2+8x+16

(x-4)2   =    x^2-8x+16

(x^2-16)2   =    x^4-32x^2+256

(x^2+8x+16)  (x^2-8x+16  ) -  (x^4-32x^2+256 )

0 = 0

Hence True

Find the missing side of this right a triangle?<br> help pls
yaroslaw [1]

Hi, there!

 _____

To find the missing side length of this triangle (which is a <em>right</em> triangle), we'll use Pythagoras' Theorem.

-\!\!\!-\!\!\!-\!\!\!\longrightarrow\boldsymbol{a^2+b^2=c^2}

Here,

\textsc{legs:}\begin{cases} \bold{a}\\\bold{b} \end{cases}

Hypotenuse (the longest side): c

We know that

\bold{a=2 \ and \ b=28}

So, we can substitute our parameters, and solve for c.

\bold{2^2+28^2=c^2} -\!\!\!-\!\!\!-\!\!\!\longrightarrow square 2 and 28

\bold{4+784=c^2} -\!\!\!-\!\!\!-\!\!\!\longrightarrow add the numbers

\bold{788=c^2} -\!\!\!-\!\!\!-\!\!\!\longrightarrow square root both sides

\bold{\sqrt{788}=c}

Hope the answer - and explanation - made sense,

happy studying!!

In the X Y -plane, Line crosses the Y - axis at the point (0,3) and passes through the point ( 4,5). Which of the following is a
nikitadnepr [17]

Answer: y = 1/2x + 3

Step-by-step explanation:

Use the equation y=mx +b

Find the slope (m) of the line by finding the difference in y over the difference in x. Or "rise over run".

The y-intercept (b) is 3 (when x is zero, it is y).
