A phospholipid is a fatty acid compound which is hydrophobic in nature due to which it forms the cell membrane of a cell.
The phospholipid is composed of a phosphate group, fatty acid chains, and glycerol molecules.
The glycerol molecule attached to a phosphate group forms the head of the phospholipid and the fatty acid forms the tail of the phospholipid. The head is the hydrophilic portion of the lipid while the tail is the hydrophobic portion of the phospholipid.
