Ignore -4y for now, put of to side

so what you do

(x^2+20x+100)-4y=0
take 1/2 of 20 and squaer it to get 100
neat, 100 is already there
so then factor perefect square
(x+10)²-4y=0
that is how you complete the square
if we had 4y² instead of 4y we could get
(x+10-2y)(x+10+2y)=0 but we don't

completed square is
(x+10)²-4y=0

Ignore the -4y term for now. Only focus on x^2+20x+100. This can be factored to (x+10)^2. Notice how expanding it out gives

(x+10)^2 = (x+10)(x+10)
(x+10)^2 = x(x+10) + 10(x+10)
(x+10)^2 = x^2+10x + 10x + 100
(x+10)^2 = x^2 + 20x + 100

So this means
x^2+20x-4y+100 = 0
turns into
(x+10)^2 - 4y = 0
after we factor

The second equation listed above implies that we have a parabola because we can solve for y to get
-4y = -(x+10)^2
y = (1/4)(x+10)^2

Lois jumped 270 times in 6 hours. At that rate, how many times would she jump in 4 minutes?
trapecia [35]

Since Louis jumped 270 times in 6 hours this means that she jumped:

\frac{270}{6}=45

45 times per hour.

Now we need to find how many times she jumped per minute to do this we have to remember that one hour has 60 minutes then we divide the number of jumps per hour by the 60 minutes, that is:

\frac{45}{60}=0.75

This means that she jumps 0.75 times per minute. Finally to find out how many times she jumped in foour minutes we multiply the 0.75 by 4:

0.75\cdot4=3

Therefore, Louis jumped 3 times in four minutes.

Travka [436]

Answer:

Price of rice per gram =  $ 0.006  per gram or 0.6 cents per gram .

Step-by-step explanation:

Given: David wants to make 10 servings, where each serving has 75 grams of rice.

Total quantity of rice required = 10 x 75 = 750 grams

Overall, David spends 4.50 dollars on rice.

i.e. cost of 750 grams of rice = 4.50 dollars

Price of rice per gram =(cost of 750 grams of rice ) ÷ 750

= (4.50 dollars )  ÷ 750

=  $  0.006  per gram.

Price of rice per gram =  $ 0.006  per gram.
