What conditions would have to occur for an offspring to express the recessive trait?

Answer:

Both parents would have to have one recessive gene.

Explanation:

Blond haired people have two recessive genes to have blond hair. Dark hair is dominant over blond hair. If B represents dark hair and b represents blond a person could have the two genes B and b. The dominant gene will win. For example:  Bb produces dark hair. BB produces dark hair, but bb produces blond hair. Two blond haired people each will give a b characteristic to the offspring, producing blond hair. Two parents with Bb genes each have 1/2 chance of giving a b gene. Therefore two dark haired parents Bb have 1/4 chance of having a blond offspring. 1/2 times 1/2 gives 1/4 chance (if they have both the dominant and recessive genes). Two parents with BB can not have a blond haired offspring.

2.Which of the following represents a genetic cross between 2 individuals that are each heterozygous for both traits?
wariber [46]

Answer:

A. AaBb x AaBb

Explanation:

The term heterozygous refers to the presence of two different alleles of same gene in an organism. The one allele can be of wild type (original type) and one can be mutated or newly formed.

In the question, two traits are represented by two letters, A and B and alleles as A and a and B and b, respectively. We are asked about a cross involving two traits and two individuals in such a way that both are heterozygous.

If we look at option A, AaBb x AaBb,

we see that one trait A and the other trait B is in heterozygous form (Aa and Bb) in both individuals.

If we look at option B. AABB x AABB

we see that one trait A and the other trait B is in homozygous form form (AA and BB) in both individuals. Homozygous means when the alleles are same for each trait in an individual.

If we look at option C,Aa x Bb

There are not two traits, one trait of one individual and other trait of other individual is being crossed that is not possible.

If we look at option D. AAaa x BBbb

Again, the individuals are homozygous for two traits.

Therefore, A is best option.

Hope it helps!
