When Odysseus came upon the island of the cyclops, he and his men were eventually captured. Upon escaping, they devised a plan that they should get these cyclops drunk and impale them with a large stake afterwards. The plan eventually works though there have also been many casualties on Odyssey's men. It was indicated in the selection that Odyssey is smart and witty.
