What is cell biology
Anna [14]

Answer:

Cell biology (also cellular biology or cytology) is a branch of biology that studies the structure, function and behavior of cells. Cell biology encompasses both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells and can be divided into many sub-topics which may include the study of cell metabolism, cell communication, cell cycle, biochemistry, and cell composition. The study of cells is performed using several techniques such as cell culture, various types of microscopy, and cell fractionation. These have allowed for and are currently being used for discoveries and research pertaining to how cells function, ultimately giving insight into understanding larger organisms. Knowing the components of cells and how cells work is fundamental to all biological sciences while also being essential for research in biomedical fields such as cancer, and other diseases. Research in cell biology is interconnected to other fields such as genetics, molecular genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology, medical microbiology, immunology, and cytochemistry.

Overall, how has science impacted human health?
mixas84 [53]

Answer:

The correct answer is: <em>C. Increased average lifespan to 78 in the US.</em>

Explanation:

Science has impacted human health by increasing the average lifespan to 78 in the US. Over the last couple of decades, the life expectancy of Americans has increased significantly than what it was 200 years ago. This can be attributed to:

1. Vaccinations- Since the invention of vaccinations, diseases such as tuberculosis, cholera and polio which were major causes of death 200 years ago have virtually been eradicated in the US.

2. Abundant and safer foods available- Commercial and large scale farming has made a wide variety of nutritious foods easier to obtain.

3. Improved sanitation- Safer drinking water, sewage treatment and stricter food inspection has significantly reduced the rate of illnesses due to poor hygiene and sanitation.

In these ways, science has impacted human health by increasing the average lifespan to 78 in the US.

If the rice already had the genes that could make vitamin A, why did scientists use genes from other organisms?
meriva

Answer:

A. The rice genes didn't make the right type of vitamin A.

Explanation:

Regular white rice does not have the gene to produce beta carotene. The human body converts the beta carotene into vitamin A.

To increase the nutritional value of rice, the gene for beta carotene from daffodil flowers was inserted into the cells of endosperm of rice.

This allowed these cells of the genetically engineered rice varieties to produce beta carotene. Production of beta carotene imparted golden color to the rice grain and hence, the name.
