the solutions are (1, - 5 ) and (5, - 1 )

y² - 26 = - x² → (1)

x - y = 6 → (2)

rearrange (2) in terms of x or y, that is

x = 6 + y

substitute this value into equation (1)

y² - 26 = - (6 + y )² ← distribute and rearrange into standard form

y² - 26 = - 36 - 12y - y²

2y² + 12y + 10 = 0 ← in standard quadratic form

divide through by 2

y² + 6y + 5 = 0

(y + 5)(y + 1 ) = 0 ← in factored form

y + 5 = 0 ⇒ y = - 5

y + 1 = 0 ⇒ y = - 1

substitute these values into x = 6 + y for corresponding values of x

y = - 5 : x = 6 - 5 = 1 ⇒ (1, - 5 ) is a solution

y = - 1 : x = 6 - 1 = 5 ⇒ (5, - 1 ) is a solution

In ΔPQR, find the measure of ∡P. Hypotenuse is 57.6 and the opposite side is 33.8.
alekssr [168]

Step-by-step explanation:

pythogoras theorem = Q²=P²+R²

P=P

Q= 57.6

R=33.8 =

(57.8)²=(P)²+(33.8)²

=3,340.84=(P)²+1142.44

=3340.84-1142.44=P²

=2,198.4=P²

=   \sqrt{2198.4}  = p    \\  = 46.8 = p

louise skip counts by 4 on a number line to find 5 x 4 how many jumps should she draw in the number line
saul85 [17]

Answer:

It depends:

  • 4 if she starts at 4
  • 5 if she starts at 0

Explanation:

Louise needs to end up a total of 5 times 4 away from zero.

If she starts at 4, which is 1 times 4, then she needs to jump 4 more times, to 2, 3, 4, 5 times 4.

If she starts at 0, then she needs to jump 5 times to 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 times 4. (The values at the end of each jump will be {4, 8, 12, 16, 20}.)
