A public transportation department measures the distance from a location using displacement vectors. To ride the bus to work for

a discounted amount, you have to travel further than 1.5 mi. (7,920 ft.) from your home. Your cell phone calculates that when you walk to work, you go 1,600 ft. south and 6,300 ft. west. What is the magnitude of the displacement vector from your home to work, and will you be able to ride the bus for the discounted rate?

Using Pythagoras theorem,

Altitude^2 +  Base^2  = Hypotenuse^2

Altitude = Distance Traveled South

Base = Distance traveled west

Hypotenuse = Displacement vector

Putting the values,

1600^2 + 6300^2 = 42250000

Displacement vector = (422550000)^1/2 = 6500

So, no discount.

Find the slope (0, -3) and (9, 0) PLEASE SHOW YOUR WORK, WILL MARK BRAINLEIST
Flura [38]
<h3>Answer: slope = 1/3</h3>

===================================================

Work Shown:

Use the slope formula to get

m = (y2 - y1)/(x2 - x1)

m = (0 - (-3))/(9 - 0)

m = (0 + 3)/(9 - 0)

m = 3/9

m = 1/3

----------------

Basically we subtract the y coordinates, and do the same for the x coordinates as well (subtract in the same order). Afterward, divide the two results. Reduce the fraction as much as possible.

A slope of 1/3 means we move up 1 unit each time we move to the right 3 units.

The slope being positive means the line goes uphill as you read from left to right.
